Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is there a difference between repair and replacing auto glass?

A: Yes. Depending on the size and nature of the crack or chip, technicians will be able to determine if the existing windshield can be repaired or if the windshield will need to be replaced to maintain the integrity of the glass. Our replacement technicians follow strict standards and procedures to ensure that every windshield is replaced properly and safely.

Q: Can I drive the car right away?

A: No. This goes for all auto glass replacement companies. There is no adhesive available that allows you drive away the moment the installer is finished. The cure time for your windshield or back-glass can be anywhere between one hour and a day – depending on the weather and type of urethane used. Ask your installer for specific cure times.

Q: How do I know your installers are qualified?

A: Your auto glass installation technician must understand the ins and outs of auto glass replacement. They must be familiar with the proper tools and methods of removal, preparation of the pinch weld, and the different adhesives available that will provide the strength to hold the windshield in your vehicle. They must also understand the proper methods to prevent leakage and/or rust around the pinch weld where the windshield will bond to the automobile. You can rest assured that your new windshield will be properly installed and your automobile will be restored to the factory specifications or better.

Keeps passengers safe Part of the airbag system Provides roof-crush resistance Prevents passenger ejection Provides aesthetics and comfort Contour shapes Tinted and solar control glass Built-in antennas Defogging and defrosting Increases visibility Large glass parts with precise, complex bends
Q:Premium or Aftermarket?

A:One of the first questions that come up after a windshield is damaged is whether to repair it or replace it. Originally, damaged windshields had to be replaced. But that was very expensive, so windshield repair became common. In fact, many insurance companies will give you the option of repairing a windshield for free, instead of replacing it (in which case you might have a deductible to pay). Commonly, it is said that if a crack is smaller than 6″ long (or smaller than the size of a dollar bill), it can be repaired (and that chips/dings fitting under a credit card can be repaired).

There are two types of glass offered at our company, Premium, and Aftermarket. Premium glass is glass that is manufactured by the OEM supplier of the vehicle maker. Example, PPG, (now PGW) is an OEM supplier of Honda, Toyota, and GM cars, also Pilkington is an OEM supplier for Lexus, BMW, Land Rover, Toyota, and Honda. When you look at your vehicle and look for the name brand of the glass maker, normally you will see the screen print of the make whether or not it is Toyota or Ford, etc. Right under the emblem, you will be able to see a D.O.T. number with the name of the maker in most cases. In Land Rover, you will be able to see Pilkington, or in Lexus too. In BMW you will be able to see either Sekurit, Pilkington or PGW.

The auto glass that is not from an OEM supplier can and may breach the safety of your vehicle and all its occupants. Aftermarket glass made by unmarked or unknown sources may come with defects, distortions and not that great of the vinyl between the glass sandwich. A windshield provides up to 45% of the cars structure integrity and up to 60% in a rollover. Also, the windshield acts as reinforcement for the airbag to deploy correctly and avoid injury to the vehicle’s occupants.

Here at ASAP Car Glass, we are more than happy to offer, stock and install the highest quality of glass for the price that no one else can beat. Take advantage of our inventory and best quality glass with a lifetime warranty on the installation today.
